Craniosacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle , non-invasive method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord, which extends from the skull, face, and mouth, down to the sacrum. The cerebrospinal fluid bathes, protects and nourishes the tissues of the central nervous system, just as blood nourishes the other cells and tissues of our bodies.

Like the pulse of the cardiovascular rhythm, the craniosacral system has a rhythm. The craniosacral pulse is the body's equivalent to the push and pull of gentle ocean waves, flowing in and out of shore. It is our own oceanic current.  Using a touch generally no heavier than a nickel, the practitioner can monitor this rhythm at key body points to pinpoint the source of an obstruction or stress.

Once a source has been determined, the practitioner can assist the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue to help the body self-correct. CranioSacral Therapy treats restrictions by gently tuning in, and freeing the connective tissue that surrounds the brain, spinal cord, organs, muscles and bone structure of the body. ( For more detailed information on connective tissue, visit the page for Fascia Release Work in this sub-menu)

CranioSacral Therapy encourages your own natural healing mechanisms to dissipate the negative effects of stress on your central nervous system. By nourishing the systems with an increased vital pulse of this essential fluid, and the general freedom in one's tissues, you also benefit from better overall health and resistance to disease. It is often used for treatments of headaches, migraines, chronic neck and back pain, chronic fatigue, TMJS, learning disabilities , ADD, autism and much more.

I worked with a young woman, many years ago, who had recently taken herself off of anxiety, and depression medication, and when she got up from the table, she said,"Wow, that goes places that meds can't even touch. "
